To address the need for virtual career development options for students, the New York City Public Schools has developed a set of resources for students and teachers to use to promote work-based learning in a virtual environment.
Provides links to recorded industry specific “Chat & Learn” sessions with employers. Each recording is about 45 minutes long. Teachers can copy and paste the appropriate link into google classroom to share with their students. Chat and Learn sessions are provided in the fields of: Business and Finance; Information Technology; Media, Technology and Design; and Construction and Sustainability.
“What do I need to know, need to do, and need to be really good at to be successful in my career?”
Designed to help middle-school students explore their career interests, learn about different jobs and help them select a career path in a particular industry based on their interests.
“What skills, knowledge, and abilities are needed to excel in a specific sector?”
Designed to help high school students at two different levels learn about the skills, abilities and knowledge needed for success in a specific sector, and explore the roles and responsibilities, career paths, job growth and outcomes associated with that sector. Activity sets for Automotive, Business and Finance, Construction and Sustainability, Culinary Arts, Engineering, Healthcare, Information Technology and Media, Technology and Design are included.
